In this article, I am going to share my five favorite quotes about creativity with you. As an artist, creativity is vital. In my opinion, it is your most valuable asset. Of course, you also need skills and technique, but without creativity, your work will never truly stand out.
But what is creativity? The Merriam-Webster dictionary simply defines creativity as “the ability to create”. And I truly believe that we all have this quality.
As a kid, I was never good at arts. And to be completely honest, it wasn’t my favorite subject at all. I never regarded myself as particularly creative or an artist. Even now, when somebody compliments me on my pieces, I tend to say something about how everybody could do something like that.
It is a constant process and takes a lot of self-reflection for me to acknowledge my creativity. To acknowledge that I have a unique ability to see colors & shapes, and to create things based on my imagination and creativity.
Do you sometimes feel stuck? I have compiled my five favorite quotes about creativity to re-spark the creative flame inside yourself.
The first quote I share is from Albert Einstein. Isn’t it mind-blowing that one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century talks about intelligence and creativity in one sentence? The creative way of Einstein’s mind changed the world of physics forever.
Maya was not only a famous poet and author, but she was also a successful dancer and singer. With so many creative interests combined in one soul, it is no surprise that she had a well of endless inspiration and creativity she could draw from – no matter if she wanted to write or perform.
This quote is really near and dear to my heart. Even as creatives, we are not immune to comparing us to other artists. And sometimes it can be pretty discouraging – suddenly all of our own creations seem lackluster and just not good enough. But remember: what makes your work special is that unique touch that only you can provide.
Isn’t creating just a fascinating process? You start from a point of raw materials, and the creation process often gets messy. Sometimes even to the extent that our project turns out completely different than we planned out from the start. And sometimes we even discover something completely new along the ride.
We are all afraid of being judged – especially when we put us and our art out there. After all, our art is a reflection of ourselves. Am I good enough? What will others think? But no matter what others may think: You are a brave soul for putting yourself out there.
Which one of these quotes is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
Never stop wondering.
